June-We had SO many celebratory things this month. The more kids I have in elementary school, and now working as an administrator at a school, I realize the month is chock full of celebrations. End of year performances, graduations, end of season parties, birthdays, carnivals! We definitely had our fill of fun, and Mark took the celebration a bit to far by shaving his head in front of his entire school with an "HL", or "Hi" as we affectionately called it. We also made a quick trip to the cabin to start the month.
June really was spent enjoying the outdoors. Both at our own home and the cabin we logged over 100 hours outside this month. We got time at the zoo, watched a robin's nest hatch right by our deck, and visited friends and family.
And then we went to the beach. I LOVE the beach, and we hadn't been to the NC/SC beaches since Mark and my honeymoon. We knew we wanted to visit my parents. And having had an expensive travel year of DC, Disney, and KC, we decided on a "cheaper" option at Myrtle Beach. The boys didn't care! We might have had a nasty small motel, the beach might have been crowded, but we had a blast! We were on the sand most of the 2 days and jumping waves every chance we had :) It was so memorable to see my kids doing what I loved as a kid (albeit mine was in Florida), and I know we will be making this a more regular occurrence.
After the beach we drove to Winston-Salem and got to spend time with my mom and my dad. The kids were so excited to see them after over a year apart, and for Gordie almost 2! We relished the time with each of them, even though my mom wasn't feeling well, and also got some quality time with my suities. I also snuck an early morning walk to my alma mater WFU in as well. :)
We weren't home for long enjoying the baby robins, a little of our quiet time, zoo (and Benny helping in the bird show! when we left for the cabin again. June was definitely a busy travel month! Regardless, the cabin is always quiet and peaceful and a wonderful getaway. Additionally, Mark and I got an evening to ourselves for our anniversary thanks to Steve and Nancy! We ate on the water and got to enjoy our cabin kid free!
